Songs from British History
Sunday, August 7, 2022
2:00 p.m.
Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, KCMO
with
Jeffrey Noonan, lutes
Paul Meier, piano
Come for a musical look at events from British history through the pairing of modern works with historical texts with related songs from the time. In the first half of the program, King Harald’s Saga by Judith Weir tells the story of King Harald of Norway’s ill-fated invasion of England in 1066, just 19 days before the successful Norman invasion of England at the Battle of Hastings. The second half of the program features Libby Larsen’s song cycle Try Me Good King: Last Words of the Wives of Henry VIII and the lute songs on which each of the movements were based.
